Obituaries: Joanne Carlin

Joanne Jane Carlin, 78, of Bettendorf, died Monday, Nov. 19, 2012, at her home, surrounded by her family. The body was cremated. The Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport, was in charge of arrangements.

Joanne Osborn was born July 6, 1934, in Davenport, the daughter of James and Elizabeth (Collins) Osborn. She graduated from the former Immaculate Conception Academy and from Rosary College, Oak Park, Ill. She married John Carlin on Aug. 31, 1957, in Davenport. He died June 4, 2008.

Mrs. Carlin had been a teacher in the Iowa City and Davenport schools.

She volunteered at Holy Family School, and was active with the PTA.

Her hobbies were traveling, wintering in Venice, Fla., and spending time with her family.

Memorials may be made to St. Anthony’s Catholic Church or the Scott County Humane Society.

Survivors include daughters, Cathy and husband Steve Mahannah, Omaha, Neb., Mary and husband Porter McNeil, Moline, Ill, and Jennifer Suiter, Davenport; a son, James and wife Laversa, Eldridge; grandchildren, Andrea (Phil) Flannery, Sarah and Kaitlin Carlin, Meghan and Molly Mahannah, James, Jack, and Ellie McNeil, and Matt, Michael, and Mitch Suiter; and three great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Miller, and brothers, Gene and Ned Osborn.
