Democrats Chris Brase and Rita Hart earned victories in their state senate races Tuesday night.

Brase defeated incumbent Republican Shawn Hamerlinck by a thin margin in the battle for State Senate District 46. Brase earned 15,862 votes and Hamerlinck secured 13,938 votes statewide, giving Brase just over 53 percent of the overall vote. In Scott County, the margin was even slimmer: Brase beat out Hamerlinck by just 18 votes in a race where 16,772 Scott County residents cast a ballot.

Hart, meanwhile, earned a win over Republican Andrew Naeve in the race for State Senate District 49. Hart earned 17,290 votes and Naeve received 14,383. In Scott County, Naeve (3,617) received more support than Hart (3,522).

In each of the State Senate races, the Republican candidate received more overall support on Election Day. However, the votes garnered by the Democratic candidates through early voting significantly exceeded their GOP opponents.
