Obituary: Gary Bruner

Gary Bruner

Celebration of Life Services for Gary Lee Bruner, 78, of Cordova, Ill., will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 12 at the Gibson-Bode Funeral Home, Port Byron. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Cordova Cemetery.

Mr. Bruner died Friday, Oct. 5, 2012, at Illini Restorative Care, Silvis.

Gary Bruner was born July 9, 1934, in Cordova, the son of Wilbur and Rachel (Yodts) Bruner. He married Romaine Koperek on Oct. 15, 1955, in Moline.

Mr. Bruner served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict.

He was a salesman for Dimock Gould Lumber Company in Moline for 14 years before going to work for Sandstrom Products in Port Byron, where he worked for 24 years.

Mr. Bruner was a member of the First Baptist Church, Cordova, and the Cordova American Legion.

His hobbies were carpentry and building.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church or the Cordova American Legion.

Survivors include his wife; daughters, Mona (Fred) Druhl, Blue Grass, Darlene (Henry) Lyon, St. Joseph, Mich., Diane (Mike) Cooney, Grand Junction, Colo.; grandchildren, Ted, Dana and Alex Getz, and John and Cassie Druhl; a sister, Ruth (Scott) Speer, Port Byron; and a brother, Paul (Emily Jo) Bruner, Cordova.

He was preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and Marge Bruner.
