Ellsworth James
Services to celebrate the life of Ellsworth “Ells” O. James, 93, of Davenport, were held at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 26 at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport. Burial was in the Oakdale Memorial Gardens, Davenport.
Mr. James died Monday, Oct. 22, 2012, at the Kahl Home, Davenport.
Ellsworth James was born in 1919 in Zion, Ill., the son of Owen and Agnus James. He married Pauline LeMon on Sept. 7, 1940, in Zion. She died June 9, 2002.
Mr. James served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He was an insurance agent and owned E.O. James Insurance Agency.
Mr. James was actively involved in Grace Gospel Missions in Grand Rapids, Mich., and Grandview Baptist Church and Legacy Baptist Churches in Davenport, Scott County YMCA, Chamber of Commerce, Blackhawk Hiking Club, and the Chordbusters.
His hobbies were boating on the river, taking the grandchildren fishing and camping, and traveling the U.S. and abroad.
Survivors include daughters, Char (Harley) DeVore, Blue Grass, Tina (Brooke) Slosser, Prescott Valley, Ariz., Winnie (Rev. John) O’Dell, Dexter, Mich., and Rochelle (Jack) Hornbuckle, Morton, Ill.; grandchildren, Kent and Carey Baugh, Brian and David DeVore, John and James O’Dell, Tim Hornbuckle, Amy Laurier, Kimberly O’Dell, and Sarah Kapusta; 16 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Roberta Walton, Zion.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by three sisters.
