Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial for David Patrick Slater, 50, of Davenport, were held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 25 at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, Davenport. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Buffalo. The Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport, was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Slater died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012, in a boating accident.

David Slater was born Jan. 30, 1962, in Davenport, the son of Joseph Sr. and Maxine (Panek) Slater. He was a graduate of Davenport West High School and received a degree in business from Iowa State University in 1984. He married Kandice Marcussen on July 1, 1989.

Mr. Slater owned Eastern Iowa Grain Inspection and Weighing Service.

He was a member of the church.

His hobbies were walking the trails, operating the dozer, riding 4-wheelers with his kids at the Wapsi, taking his kids on fishing excursions, and skiing. He was instrumental in waterfowl habitat and preservation in Iowa and Illinois.

Memorials may be made to the family in anticipation of establishing a wildlife conservation fund for future educational programs or purposes.

Survivors include his wife; and  children, Weston, Brennan, and Kayleigh, all of Davenport; a brother, Joseph Jr. (Pamela), Long Grove; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Kermit and Arlene Marcussen, Harlan; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Jeannine and Lloyd Thomas, Fort Collins, Colo.; and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Lynn and Tricia Marcussen, Orange, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
