Republican Shawn Hamerlinck of Dixon is running against Democrat Chris Brase of Muscatine. The district covers the city of Muscatine and eastern Muscatine County, plus Liberty, Cleona, Hickory Grove, Sheridan, Blue Grass and Buffalo townships in Scott County, plus precincts 21, 73, 81 and 83 in Davenport, and the cities of Dixon, Donahue, Walcott, Blue Grass, Maysville, Donahue, Long Grove and Eldridge:
• Hamerlinck: Public offices: Davenport Second Ward Alderman from 2004-2008; State Senator, District 42nd District 2008-2012. Employment: Full-time faculty member through the Eastern Iowa Community College District and an adjunct professor at Augustana College. Education: Bachelor’s degree from Loras College; master’s degree from Loyola University in Chicago. Family: Married with three sons.
• Brase: Public offices: none. Employment: Firefighter and paramedic for the last 22 years.  Education: Earned paramedic’s certification at the University of Iowa. Family: Married with three children and one grandchild.
