Democrat Rita Hart of Wheatland and Republican Andrew Naeve of Andover are seeking the State Senate seat in District 49. The district covers all of Clinton County plus Allens Grove, Winfield, Butler, Lincoln, Princeton and LeClaire townships in Scott County. This includes Park View, McCausland, Princeton and LeClaire, but not Long Grove or Donahue.

• Hart: Public offices: Served on Clinton County Planning and Zoning Commission and Clinton County Justice Commission. Education: English degree from Northern Iowa (1978); Master’s in educational administration from University of Iowa in 1989. Employment: Taught English; administrator for Gifted and Talented and School to Work program. Family: Married with five children.

• Naeve: Public offices: East Central School Board (2008 to 2011, vice president 2010-11); Education: Graduated from Cornell University in 2007 with a bachelor’s degree in Farm Business Management and Finance. Employment: Sixth generation farmer. Family: Married to wife Kristin.
