On the evening of July 9, nine area chefs competed in the Quad Cities Taste of Elegance, hosted by the Iowa-Illinois Pork Producers Association at the Isle of Capri Convention Center ballroom.
Additional sponsors included Martin Bros. Distribution Co., Inc., Hawkeye Foodservice Distribution, Scott County Pork Producers, Scott Community College, Milan Florist, Trophy Shoppe and Isle of Capri.
Chef Doug Lear of the Bass Street Chop House in Moline was the winner. His entrée was Root Beer Braised Pork Cheek with Chili Crusted Herb Sweet Potato Croquette. Chef Park Excellence Lear received a check for $1,000 and a plaque. He will be eligible to represent the Quad Cities at Pork Summit 2013, a national Taste of Elegance event in Greystone, Calif.
Superior Chef Mon Sayasit of Daniel Arthur’s in Cedar Rapids was awarded a plaque and $700 for his Modern Pork Bowl. Premier Chef Jerimy Henson of 4 Play Sports Pub in Rock Island won a plaque and $300 for his Chickaree Sous Vide Pork Shoulder, Jalapeño Carrot and Currant Cole Slaw.
The People’s Choice Award was given to Chef Doug Lear as well. He received another plaque and a check for $250, presented by sponsor Scott County Pork Producers.
“Our committee feels this evening was a great success,” said Suzy VenHorst, of the Scott County Pork Producers and the Iowa Pork Producer Association’s Restaurant and Food Service Committee.
